Last night we had a cozy dinner in Karori with Douglas, Anna and their two sons, one of whom we’ve only seen in photos and via Skype and the other whom we saw in Yorkshire when he was 18 months, he is now 15! The boys are delightful, both mad about sports and very handsome (look out girls), I’m sure you’ll agree! They’ve quite willingly posed for photos. It made me a bit sad to know that they’ve nearly grown up, and we’ve just met them. Duncan’s mum always said she wondered what she had done wrong – one son moved to Canada and the other to New Zealand! Thank heavens for Skype which keeps us in touch with friends and family all over the world. It makes one feel connected in a way that the telephone just doesn’t.
The South Island
This may be my last post for a while as we are off to the South Island tomorrow on the early ferry. Experienced ferry travellers told that the predicted southerly (wind) is better than a northerly and the best place to endure the 3 hour journey is to go inside and sit in the middle lower down and watch a film! Neither Duncan or I are what you would call sailors, I prefer to stay up on deck and take deep breaths! Remember that ride from Bar Habour to Yarmouth the day after the hurricane went through, Sylv? Duncan went out to buy Gravol! Our friend, Chris, says, “It’s another country down there”. How exciting!
